Scope
Permanent Works
M & M Rail Services have established a solid base of experience and a respected capability in the provision of Permanent Way. Our permanent way capability came through the removal and replacement of track in association with our structure renewals projects as we looked to provide a more complete service to our Clients. This approach minimised the number of external interfaces that M & M Rail Services had to manage, particularly within the tight possession windows that were available. The variety of permanent way works that we now provide are far greater, having undertaken a number of track renewals schemes.
We employ a number of Track Engineers that are able to set out permanent way works, interface with rail borne tampers and sign and hand back the track up to the network’s maximum linespeed.
Ground Works
M & M Rail Services have completed an extensive portfolio of earthworks projects that is both broad in terms of the type of work undertaken and varied in respect of the environment in which the works were undertaken.
M & M Rail Services carry out emergency projects, pre-planned repairs and stabilisation works at numerous sites on Network Rail’s infrastructure.
Our highly skilled and experienced team, supported by a large Supplier Data Base has built up a reputation for being able to carry out complex schemes in the most physically and operationally challenging of situations.
We have worked primarily on the rail network; M & M Rail Services has also completed many projects in other areas of civil engineering earthworks, formations, structures, and stabilisation projects. On many occasions, projects are planned and implemented to allow the passage of trains whilst the works take place where previously the line would have had to be closed for the duration of the repairs. Our capabilities extend to:
Emergency works
Repair works
To implement a designed solution to rectify damage, often following an initial emergency call-out.
Strengthening works
To enhance or restore the capacity at a site where rail speed restrictions have, or may need to be imposed.
Stabilisation works
To reduce or remove the potential for failure at high risk sites.
Planned Preventative works
To reduce the potential for failure in embankments/cuttings by installing cess drains, cut off drains and slope drainage to provide the controlled discharge of rainwater, the primary cause of many failures
Structures
M & M Rail Services’ portfolio of completed structures projects is more diverse and extensive than any other in the Company. Our teams of multi-skilled railway civil engineering operatives are tailored specifically to respond to the unique demands of constructing, maintaining and enhancing railway structures.
Our capabilities can be summarised as follows:
Bridges
Deck replacement, long timber renewal, provision of concrete saddles, waterproofing, and brickwork/masonry repairs.
Tunnels
Brickwork re-pointing, Water proofing
Buildings / Structures
Platform extension, platform coping stone re-profiling, structural repairs and extension
Drainage
Our Clients have focused on prevention as opposed to repair. This is most apparent in their approach to the rail network’s drainage system. An effective drainage system not only reduces the risk of flooding but can improve track and embankment stability.
The schemes within our drainage portfolio range from clearing existing pipes and manholes to installing new drainage systems. We have worked on cess, six foot and ten foot drains as well as open ditches, culverts and outfalls.
Once again, M & M Rail Services has invested in specialist plant and equipment that enable us to achieve impressive productivity rates, enabling us to make optimum use of valuable possession periods. Initially our experience was gained through undertaking minor works for Network Rail’s maintenance contractors
Infrastructure
M & M Rail Services has a well proven ability to develop and deliver original solutions to meet the challenges of installing and managing lineside infrastructure.
We have worked on the rail network’s lineside infrastructure, gaining much experience, beating the project’s tight deadlines and staying well within budget.
Our capabilities extend to:
Provision of cable route and cabling.
Provision of route signage.
Provision of safe walking routes.
General civil works such as the installation of signal post bases, gantry bases, REB bases, under track crossings and the like.
